Back of Beyond Books

We are a little independent bookstore with a big selection of books. The name of the store was drawn from one of Edward Abbey’s most well-known fiction titles, The Monkey Wrench Gang. His character Seldom Seen Smith was an outfitter, and the name of his company–and hideout–was “Back of Beyond.” We specialize in natural history, environmental literature, southwestern guidebooks & maps, Native American books, and Western history. But we also carry a wild assortment of science, philosophy, current affairs, rare books, and generally other cool stuff you won’t find elsewhere.
