Why Join?

The world of bookselling is about colleagues and sharing ideas about books and retail and how to put the two things together. Our store would not be in business today without the help that we got from others who were dealing with the same issues we were or had been doing it longer than we had and offered to help us. We went to the Trade Shows, sat in on seminars given by booksellers or staff of the ABA and learned so much. We participated on the board and always got more than we gave. The regional associations serve a very important purpose in this country for booksellers large and small and I always feel like the small amount of dues we pay comes back to us manyfold in services, benefits and the fun of being together sharing our love of books.”

‐Gayle Shanks, Co‐owner
Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe, Arizona

What do I get out of MPIBA? A winter catalog that helps us sell books by focusing our buying and our displays! The opportunity to hear authors speak at the trade show- authors that we get excited about and turn into bestsellers in our store! And a very supportive network of peers who will always let me pick their brains for ideas when I am stuck.”

‐Andrea Avantaggio, Owner/Manager
Maria’s Bookshop in Durango, Colorado

Invaluable educational programming, meeting amazing authors at the trade show, making connections with colleagues from all parts of the book community, a winter catalog, and an organization dedicated to strengthening Mountains and Plains booksellers … these are just some of the reasons to become a member of MPIBA. I’m a huge fan!”

‐Cathy Langer, Former Head Buyer
Tattered Cover Book Store(s) in Denver, Colorado

What membership in MPIBA brings my store is, in a word, opportunity. My staff and I receive the opportunity for education at the Trade Shows and Spring Meetings: the opportunity to meet authors and see exciting new books at the same, the opportunity to receive helpful industry information via their excellent newsletters and web site, and (last but most certainly not least) the opportunity to network with our friends and colleagues in the region. The seminars I’ve attended and the friends I’ve made over the years are invaluable. I’m a better bookseller because of MPIBA and so are many of my staff members.”

‐Catherine Weller, Co-owner
Weller Book Works in Salt Lake City, Utah

Through MPIBA, I have personally connected with an invaluable network of friends and colleagues that I regularly contact for advice, knowledge, and idea exchange all year long.”

‐Meghan Dietsche Goel, Children’s and Young Adult Book Buyer
BookPeople Bookstore in Austin, Texas

Best $100 you’ll ever spend! The Trade Show alone pays off this investment let alone all the other benefits of MPIBA membership!”
