Fall Discovery Show 2017 – Bookseller Reservation Form

Booksellers!
Register for the show by August 18, 2017

Please note that rooms at the Renaissance are selling out fast, so book your room as quickly as possible by clicking the link below.

Current MPIBA member bookstores are welcome to attend this year’s Fall Discovery Show. Sign up early for the meal events and sessions. Please note that after August 18, 2017, a $25 late fee will be automatically added.

Plan to pick up name badges and meal tickets at the Registration Desk when you arrive at the Fall Discovery Show.

Meal tickets and Pick of the Lists attendance are on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan on submitting this online form at your earliest convenience and no later than August 18, 2017.

You can pay for your Fall Discovery Show 2017 and Membership Renewal with a secure credit card or PayPal. Please note that the PayPal screen allows you to pay with your “regular” credit card, PayPal credit, or bank transfer.

You must pay for your total charges when you submit this form; otherwise, you are not considered registered for the 2017 Fall Discovery Show. Your selections and charges will be recapped in a notification letter you will receive after submitting.

Your credit card or PayPal receipt will be used instead of an invoice or sales receipt from MPIBA.

If you already submitted the form online and need to make changes for yourself and your attending booksellers, please do not complete another form; instead, communicate changes directly to Marnie O’Connor, MPIBA’s Associate Project Manager.

Send an e-mail with this subject line: “Change to Existing Online Bookseller Rez Form – (Your Bookstore Name)” to: marnie@mountainsplains.org

Fall Discovery Show 2017 - BOOKSELLER Reservation Form

  • Completing This Form

Please use the TAB KEY to move from field to field below. DO NOT use the ENTER KEY as this will cause your form to "submit" immediately after hitting "enter," probably before you are finished completing the form.
Please note that there are several required fields in this form. You must complete those in order to submit this form successfully.
Please e-mail Marnie O'Connor: marnie@mountainsplains.org if you did happen to submit multiple forms.

  • Section 1 - Bookstore Form Information

  • Update Your Online Bookstore Information

For the past two years, Mountains and Plains has had the “BOD” – Bookstores Online Database – in place. This interactive database links to the “Find a Bookstore” area of our website.

It is important to update your information when it changes (online links, number of employees or titles, management changes, etc.) so that the thousands of visitors (and potential customers) visiting MPIBA's website will have the latest information available about your store.
Click the below link to access the BOD and update your information before the Fall Discovery Show.

Access the BOD - Bookstores Online Database.

  • Section 3 - Meal Tickets

  • Publisher sponsorship for author appearances allows meal ticket prices for booksellers to be well below MPIBA's actual cost.
If you have been invited by a publisher or a publisher's sales rep to join them at their purchased full table, you will receive a complimentary meal ticket and will not need to pay for that meal via this form. However, you do need to advise MPIBA, so there is a separate section below each meal event where you will add the publisher's name and your name(s) for the full table to which you have been invited.
If you should be invited after you submit this form, we will refund your meal ticket charge AFTER the Fall Discovery Show has been completed. However, please e-mail Marnie O'Connor: marnie@mountainsplains.org with this updated information.
Please list total meal tickets, and then record names for those tickets below, click the round plus symbol at the end of the entry line to add an additional line for each attendee name.

ABA Presents: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Addressing Stereotypes and Creating a Welcoming Environment
Presenter: Ilsa Govan, M.A., of Cultures Connecting
Through video, interactive exercises, and storytelling, Ilsa Govan will illustrate how implicit racial stereotypes can influence attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs about others and create barriers to genuine relationships. The workshop also aims to help booksellers understand the factors that create a sense of welcoming in an independent bookstore, from the inventory to the diversity of staff members, as well as how implicit biases whether about race, gender, age, or disability status come into play in creating such an environment for staff and customers.

Registration for this $75 workshop will be available through ABA in August; MPIBA Fall Discovery Show registration is not required to attend the workshop.

The following Educational Sessions are sponsored by Penguin Random House.

A bookstore’s frontlist sales which are spurred by handselling, current events, reviews, and media coverage are essential. In this session, ABA senior staff and Board members will explore proven ways to market, promote, and sell backlist titles. The session will include a discussion of advantageous backlist terms now being offered by some publishers as well as best practices for successfully managing your store’s cash flow and return on investment.
