LITERACY PROGRAMS IN OUR REGION

The Association annually presents grants of $500 to $1,000 to support non-profit literacy programs in our region. Announcement of the grants is made at the Fall Book Camp.

MPIBA has awarded grants amounting to over $70,000 since 1990.
HOW TO APPLY

Applications must be received by August 1 and should be sent to the address at left.

Applications must be sent in triplicate.

All applicants will receive notification of disposition of grant monies by September 30.

2006 LITERACY GRANT RECIPIENTS
English Skills Learning Center in Salt Lake City, Utah

Recruits and trains volunteers to help new immigrants and refugees learn the everyday English skills they need to get jobs and lead productive lives. From July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2006, 112 tutors and 231 adult students completed tutoring requirements. Tutors volunteered more than 10,000 hours of their time.

Lewis & Clark Literacy Council in Helena, Montana
Helps adults in Helena and surrounding areas acquire the reading, writing, English language, work and life skills necessary to participate productively with their families and their community.

Literacy Link - Leamos in Silver City, New Mexico
Assists adult learners and families in the development of Engllish communication skills by recruiting volunteer tutors, providing instruction in basic reading skills, and promoting community partnerships for literacy.
