Promote Your Company at the Fall Discovery Show
Mountains & Plains has multiple avenues for you to promote your company, authors, and titles at the Fall Discovery Show (Trade Show). Please see the Exhibitor Reservation form or Advertising Reach and Opportunities page for detailed information about prices, deadlines, discounts, and sizes.
The single most important thing you can do is book an exhibit table – available in wall, full table, or half table sizes — so that your company, titles, authors, and sidelines products will have visibility to the booksellers who visit the hall on Thursday evening and all day Friday. Most every category has a discount for members, so make sure you take advantage of discounts by signing up for membership on the Exhibitor Reservation form.
Drive bookseller traffic to your Discovery Show exhibit table with special offers. These are published in theDirectory and, time permitting, in advance of the show.
Fall Discovery Show Directory Advertisement:
This beautiful 36-page directory is given to every attendee at registration. Booksellers usually receive it on Wednesday afternoon and study it in their hotel room before the events begin on Thursday, continuing through Saturday. The directory lists Show events “At a Glance” plus detailed information about authors, events, and sessions; exhibitors and table numbers; exhibit hall layout; show specials; hotel floorplans; Winter Catalog titles; and much more!
Bookseller Welcome Bag:
Keepsake bags, donated by a generous publisher or wholesaler, are given to every bookseller at registration. You can elect to insert a brochure, a bookmark, a flyer, etc. for this promotion.
Get your message out to booksellers well in advance of the Show, by running a dedicated e-Blast ad highlighting an attending author, a show special, or a title you’ll be featuring at your exhibit table. Sent to all bookseller online subscribers, e-Blasts are recommended for a Monday or Tuesday publication.
Pick of the Lists:
The highlight of the Fall Discovery Show for many booksellers! Children’s, morning, and afternoon sessions are conducted by publisher representatives and run most of the day on Thursday, October 9. Participants must have at least five titles to discuss in order to be eligible, and these wildly popular spaces are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
Author Opportunities at the Fall Discovery Show
Mountains & Plains has myriad opportunities for authors to meet booksellers, sign books, and make their experience at the Fall Discovery Show productive and memorable.
Gala Opening Reception:
MPIBA invites exhibiting publishers to attend the Gala Opening Reception on Thursday, October 9. This free, fun event includes hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and lots of bookseller attendees! You must be an exhibitor with a reserved table in order to bring authors to sign at the Opening Reception. We recommend 50 books per author at this event for large publishers, and 25 books per author for small publishers.
MPIBA invites exhibiting publishers to have 1-2 authors at their exhibit table to greet booksellers and sign books during exhibit hall hours on Friday, October 10 (9:30am – 4:30pm with an hour break for lunch). You must be an exhibitor with a reserved table in order to bring authors to sign in the exhibit hall. We recommend 50 books per author at this event for large publishers, and 25 books per author for small publishers.
The majority of these slots are usually filled early in the year by publishers who have exciting fall and winter titles to promote, and who “queue up” their authors for our popular Fall Discovery Show by contacting us beginning with ABA’s Winter Institute in the early part of the year through Book Expo America in late spring.
A meal event appearance is handled by MPIBA review and invitation only, and these appearances incur a sponsorship fee in addition to any other exhibitor and promotion fees. This appearance also requires a separately-completed “Online – Author Reservation Form – Publicists,” which will be availble in Summer 2014.
