Winter Catalog 2012
For 35 years, the full-color, beautifully designed MPIBA Winter Catalog has been an invaluable sales tool for our independent bookseller members in the greater Rocky Mountain region. Publishers place ads for their outstanding Fall titles as well as titles that are of specific regional interest, and national and regional wholesalers support the catalog with special stock offers.
A major benefit of membership in MPIBA is that stores receive plain or imprinted catalogs FREE in unlimited quantities (stores pay only freight). With a minimum order of 1500, the store logo appears on the front of the catalog and the entire bottom half of the back cover is available for a coupon or customer message.
Backlist sales … up 440%!
“We carried multiple copies of each title, and the results were amazing! We increased backlist sales on one title from the 5 we thought we’d sell to the 27 we actually sold (440%); we sold 15 of one title that we thought wouldn’t sell. From our insertion, dozens of new customers came in to the store with books circled to buy.”

Increased sales by 45% …
“We have been using the Winter Catalog for several years, and each year it just gets better. It is now our most important tool for Christmas sales; distributing the catalog helped us increase our Christmas sales by 45%! After the local newspaper insertion at Thanksgiving, people always come in waving the catalog and looking for specific books. We emphasize catalog titles by displaying them at the front of the store, ordering plenty of stock, and tutoring our staff so they can handsell their favorites. I look forward to another great year of Christmas selling with our Winter Catalog.”
–Susie Wilmer, Owner, Old Firehouse Books in Fort Collins, Colorado
Because it works!
“We inserted 15,500 catalogs into our daily newspaper over an entire week. We saw more customers arrive at our store with catalog in hand ready to shop for their predetermined choices. We also attracted people who had never been into our store thanks to this broadened approach. This is the third year in a row we’ve taken this marketing avenue so seriously – and it’s because it works!!”
–Nicole Magistro, Owner/Buyer, The Bookworm of Edwards in Edwards, Colorado
It looks like our own catalog …
“We inserted 7,000 imprinted catalogs in the local newspaper, and we had a great response. But what we like best is that this beautiful marketing piece looks like our own catalog, one we produced ourselves. It gives us great credibility and validity in our small town.”
- Duane Gudgel, Owner, Plains Trading Company in Valentine, Nebraska
