9:30 – 10:30 am
Presented by Oren Teicher, Joy Dallanegra-Sanger, and Dan Cullen
Staff from ABA will be on hand to provide an in-depth introduction about
Kobo’s eReading platform, which is available to all ABA member bookstores
through a partnership between ABA and Kobo. Under the agreement, all
ABA members will be able to offer their customers a full line of eReaders,
eReading accessories, and eBooks from Kobo’s catalog of nearly three million
titles. Come hear the latest updates and get an in-depth introduction to a
digital solution that can support your bricks-and-mortar business. The
session will include an opportunity to ask questions.

Here’s My Number, So Call Me Maybe
(Publishers — What’s the 411? Session 1)
10:45 – 11:45 am
Presented by Craig Popelars, Algonquin Books
Publishers are great with selling books into your store, but can’t they do
more to help move their books off your store shelves and into your
customers’ hands? How can booksellers take more advantage of publishers’
marketing, publicity, advertising, and technology resources to generate more
store sales? Sometimes it just takes an old fashioned phone call to the
publisher to get the ball rolling. Come learn and brainstorm some of the
ways publishers can support individual stores to help foster stronger sales
of their titles.

Beating E-Books with Backlist (core adult)
10:45 – 11:45 am
(Presenter change)
Presented by Betsy Burton, The King’s English, with panelist Eric Boss,
Penguin Group (USA)
E-books are here to stay but there are plenty of great reads out there that
are not available electronically. Let’s talk about appealing book displays
that will keep customers coming back for more fiction, non-fiction, and
picture books that they can’t find in the clouds! Bring your favorite
examples so we can share!

Introduction to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation
(formerly Publishers — What’s The 411? Session 2)
1:30 – 2:30 pm
Presented by Allison Foreman
Come learn how the Book Industry Charitable Foundation provides financial
assistance to book shop employees experiencing a financial emergency.

Gifts Are Good Money!
2:45 – 3:45 pm
(Presenter change)
Presented by Gayle Shanks, Changing Hands Bookstore with panelist Julie
Shimada, Maria’s Bookshop
We all want to sell more books; great gift items are what help us to do that
and make a profit. Whether it’s a one dollar princess pencil from
International Arrivals or a $129.95 laptop bag from Moleskine, the margin is
50% and it helps the bottom line. What’s working for you?

Join us for this program – a hit of the Trade Show last year – that gives booksellers a chance to chat with some of the industry’s brightest stars in a relaxed environment. The format is similar to that of a moveable feast. We’ll have ten tables filled with booksellers and ten authors will rotate around from table to table and will have approximately eight minutes at each table to discuss their book with booksellers.

Please note: table numbers, author seatings, and bookseller seatings are drawn at random, so booksellers may not get to meet every author.
